Since I compose and create a lot of direct-selling ads for clients, I’m often called on to analyze ads created by other agencies. It’s cheaper to have me analyze an advertisement than to run it in a national magazine and get no response. This particular ad analysis for a client turned into a hefty post mortem and the autopsy isn’t pretty. I’d rather be frank and truthful than say how great a lousy ad is and have it draw a poor response. Here’s my cover letter synopsis, the ad, and my 3-page analysis of the Barefoot Science ad:
